Veterans Day 2018

Solemn ceremonies took place around the world today to mark 100 years to the day since the Armistice that saw the end of World War I. Members of the public, military veterans, world leaders and royals took part in memorials around the globe to remember the 8.5 million people who gave their lives between 1914 and 1918.

My Grandfather served in WWI. My Father and several relatives have served over the years, and I'm very proud of all of them.  It's a day of remembrance but also a day of gratitude for all those who have served so honorably.

The Story of the Red Poppy...
In the spring of 1915, shortly after losing a friend in Ypres, a Canadian doctor, Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae was inspired by the sight of poppies growing in battle-scarred fields to write a now famous poem called 'In Flanders Fields'. After the First World War, the poppy was adopted as a symbol of Remembrance.

Members of The American Legion Family distribute paper poppies with a request that the person receiving the flower make a donation to support the future of veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families with medical and financial needs.
 Thank you to all Veterans.
