Spring into Action

Spring will be here in just a few hours, the calendar says the first day of spring is March 20th. I am happy to say that it is starting to look like the beginning of spring around here too. Some plants are emerging from the leaf litter and showing their little green leaves.  The grass is starting to grow.

The most evident sign of spring was last week, when I heard a flock of geese overhead.  They were surveying our lake to see if there was open water to land.  Our pond has melted at the edges, just enough room for the ducks to start paddling around. We have a flock of about 25 mallards here right now.  Some of them will head on north as the ice melts off the northern lakes.

The geese stopped to look around a bit for nesting spots, but left in search of a larger lake.  They will come back as things melt and they have more room to swim around.  We may have some flowers soon if the warmer weather continues! Until that happens, here are some cute Vintage Spring things to cheer you up!

For more information about each item, simply click on the highlighted title above each item.

Isn't this just one of the cutest bunnies you've ever seen!

I hope you enjoyed this little spring trip through my shop.  If you're wondering, the "paintings" are my photos digitally enhanced with photo editing tools. Just another thing for me to waste time with! I do like the way they turned out though! I wish I could actually paint like that! Thanks so much for visiting, I'll try and catch up with your blogs soon. ~ Diane

Soft and Quiet

Soft and quiet, October arrived. The rain on the roof is tapping lightly while I sip on my gi-normous cup of coffee. The house is quiet this morning and I look over some of the enchanted vintage items I picked up last weekend.

I found another silly rabbit planter, this one with a little pink bow around his neck.  A few gorgeous teacups arranged on top of the piano amongst the Autumn decorations, placed there out of the way of kitty foot traffic!

Pretty roses and cosmos adorn these two cups and saucers. Rain dripping off the roof and all the windows are now closed up, there's a real chill in the air.  Even the kitties are not happy with the cold wet weather and after their morning breakfast, went right back to their favorite warm spots for naps.

This little owl creamer is so sweet and goes so well with the Autumn colors. Soft and quiet, that's kind of how these pictures came out. I snapped them with my phone, too lazy to go down stairs and get my other camera!

Last weekend was the last Flea Market of the year for our favorite venue.  My hubby and I gathered up as much as we could find.  We were like crazed squirrels hoarding our treasures for the winter.  It was much nicer last week getting out than it will be in the coming cold months. And just like that the weather changed from an 80 degree day on Sunday to now in the 50's with rain.

Speaking of crazed squirrels, what do you think of this little charmer?  It is a dark brown squirrel nut or candy dish. He has gold trim on the little dish he holds in front and gold around the large bowl opening which is his tail. My husband called him psycho squirrel. I think he is cute and couldn't resist. It was worth getting up at 5:30 in the morning just to find this little treasure!

Next time I'll be sharing a few photos of a little trip north I took with my husband. We drove along the shore of Lake Superior all the way from Duluth to Grand Marais MN.

Until next time....  I'll be seeing you in BlogLand! ~~Diane

The Happy Rabbit by Patricia Barton

Enjoying the last few weeks of spring? That is exactly what I am doing. Spending time outside in my garden and when it's raining, I go through my book stash. I just had to pull out a few images from this darling book and share with you. These are from the book The Happy Rabbit, written and illustrated by Patricia Barton.

Patricia Barton started painting at the age of 36. She had no true academic training and thus her work is sometimes called "Modern Primitive".  She moved from the United States to France at the age of twenty five. Her time in the French countryside brought a change in her perceptions and she became highly aware of the relationships of plants and animals in their changing environment.  A friend suggested she take up painting as a way to express her new found emotions. Here wondrous and whimsical artwork was noticed by area art critics and her new career was born. For more about Patricia visit this site.

"I am sure there was always some hidden creativity in me which was screaming to manifest itself. But also I am profoundly moved by the beauty of the changing seasons and, indeed, by all of nature. This magical beauty is certainly the most important force which opened the world of painting to me."
                                                                                     Patricia Barton

I love how the border changes from winter to fall.

How cute is this bunny!

Look at this darling little hedgehog!

The birds are beautiful.
I love the delicate water color of these images.

These winter paintings are just so sweet. I could move into that cute little house! I love the image below with the gorgeous snow covered trees and that precious little bird singing its heart out.

The Happy Rabbit is A Big Golden Book. Pictures and story by Patricia Barton. Book is in very good condition with some edge wear and soil on cover, interior is in very good condition. New York - Golden Press Book, 1968, 2nd Printing. Hardcover measures 9.5"x12.5".

This darling book follows a Happy Rabbit through the four seasons. This beautiful book is very large and is perfectly nice for reading. The artwork is gorgeous and would be beautiful framed as well.

If you are interested in purchasing this book it is available in my Etsy store Crave Cute.

Some Cute Vintage Finds

This past week just flew by! I took a couple of days to tend to my flower gardens and a couple more days to go to some estate sales. Today I would like to share my wonderful vintage finds with you.

This cute kitty planter is from the 1950's.  It is unmarked, but some research has led me to think this is a Shawnee Pottery piece. I have not been able to verify that for sure, so I need to do a bit more digging. She is so cute with her long beautiful eyelashes! I may be falling in love with this little sweetie!

I found this extra large watercolor paint set, by Page of London. The theme is Alice in Wonderland and features a detailed lithograph of the famous tea party. This tin has most of the paint blocks still intact and the tin itself is in remarkable condition.

A quick search found that a few years ago one sold at a Christie's auction for around $500.  However some have sold recently for much less.  My husband has several more of these tins with different themes, but he will not let me sell them (even though they have just been sitting in a box in our basement for years)!

I love the magical creatures!

Pose for the camera and say peanuts!

Look at these cute little elephant salt and pepper shakers from Hull/Leeds Pottery. They are just so cute, one has yellow ears and the other has blue ears! They are from the 1940's.

This poor little lass has lost her mate! She is supposed to be singing, while he accompanies her on the accordion. Right now I think she is saying "Boohoo! I'm all alone!" She is one half of a set of the Shawnee Pottery Company Swiss Children Salt and Pepper shakers. I did find her mate for sale in another online shop. Maybe the two will be reunited! She is also from the 1950's.

Here is another Shawnee Pottery piece, a small planter of a rabbit peeking around a tree stump. I have to say I think this rabbit looks a little deranged, but that's just my opinion! I am sure someone would love the little guy!

Our outdoor sales and markets are just getting started so can't wait to get out there and look for more. Now if I could just focus on getting them all listed in my shop I would be doing great!

Oooh, I think the sun is coming out! Off to take some pictures of my garden!   ~~ Diane
