A Few Favorite Things

Here are just a few of my favorite things!
And they all are from my own back yard and home....

Baby Ducks... Wood Ducks... taken late June...

A few shots of our flowers around the back gate and in the inside the yard. I'm happy to report that we now have two kinds of bumble bees in our yard and a few more butterflies have been visiting. Still no sign of any frogs though.

A berry trifle for our house guests!

Going into the back yard from the lakeside. The flowers love to grow here and hang in front of the gate.  We've had a super abundance of bunnies this year and they apparently love those tall blue flowers, sorry, I can't remember the name, but they reseed easily and end up in unexpected places....

Guests for dinner? Well yes, these bunnies decided to dine with us,
alfresco of course!

We dined on grilled baby squash, potatoes and chicken....

And the bunnies had their own feast!

The next day Dot oversees the back yard,
.....see her paw, there's a dot at the tip....

Some daylilies, bee balm and a few weeds next to the lake shore....

Guy is a very well behaved boy on his leash.

 Guy hanging out with Dot!

Guy finds something in the grass and stands on the leash...
Dot says...... Hey, Hey, get offa my Leash!!

My view from a back yard bench... this is why I find it hard to leave.

A view of our little lake over the flowers...

When I took this the phlox were just starting to bloom... I'm behind on my photos more will be coming soon!

There are a few patches of swamp milkweed next to the lake-shore, I've seen a few pairs of Monarch butterflies doing a mating 'dance' mid-air!

These cheerful Yellow day-lilies always brighten my day, as I hope they've brightened yours!

Thank you for joining me and taking a look at some of my favorite things...

Earth Day 2015

Hello Mother Earth...

alicepopkorn

Two things always impress
me when I go to the wilderness:

One is how I always discover something new there;
the other is how glad I am there is still some wilderness to go to.

Time was in America when people went to an untouched spot in a forest or beside a river, or into a desert or up a mountainside or onto a wide, grass-covered prairie, and took along what they poetically called "a dream," which was the hope of building a home there, or a city, or a society.
Too often that dream came true.....

Extreme Cold

Winter Chill .... or Back into the Polar Vortex...... or New Year same Old Cold!

Again with the extreme cold! Why won't the cold air stay at the North Pole where it belongs? Anyway, I am not leaving the house for the next week! Meanwhile, it's nice to look at some of these gorgeous photos on my phone while snuggled under a blanket in front of the fire! Here's to warm hearts, warm cats and warm beverages!

Nature in Glass

Summer in the Arboretum Garden ...

My house-guests are away visiting other relatives for a few days but will return on Saturday. I thought I would write a quick post on one of our activities that I had been looking forward to for a few weeks.

We spent several hours at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum where we toured the grounds and checked out one of the summer exhibits. This is the largest public garden in the upper Midwest and is over 1,000 acres (4.60 km2).

The arboretum features unusual art works every year and this one is quite stunning!  It is called Nature in Glass and features the work of Craig Mitchell Smith.  The exhibit contains 32 unique and stunning glass sculptures that adorn the Arboretum outdoor gardens and collections.

Mr. Smith designed large iridescent, fused-glass sculptures that were created specifically for the Arboretum's unique outdoor setting. This is one of the best exhibits I have seen at the Arb. and I was very happy to find several of the pieces of art and photograph them.  I missed a few, and will return later on a less hot and stifling day!

You Are My Sunshine

Finally after days of gloomy weather and rain last week, we had sunshine, glorious bright, clear and wonderful sunshine. It was a perfect day, in the mid 60's and I took the opportunity to visit our Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Because of our odd spring you see the crab apples, lilacs and tulips are all blooming together which is somewhat unusual.

I captured some sunshine brightened blooms and saved them for a rainy day, which lately seems like every day! Even after a gloomy, cold and rainy weekend we are having another gloomy rainy day! So even though last week I had work to be done with the upcoming weekend and house-guests, I took a break and I'm sure glad I did. Hope you enjoy these photos, feel free to pin them to your pinterest boards if you wish.
