Keep Calm ...

This sounds like sound advice for the times we are living in right now.  Things are all Topsy-turvy, upside-down and out of kilter.  I was reminded of the message above while watching a PBS special about trains in the UK.  One of the train stations now houses a used book store.  While the owners were going through a box of books they purchased at auction, they found the original poster from WWII.  The original had never been released to the general public. You can read and view a video about it at the Barter Books website.

Most simple day to day activities have a way of helping me to keep calm and carry on. Cooking, cleaning, gardening and volunteer work all provide that sense of purpose in my day.  The changing seasons signal something new is ahead.  Or maybe it's just that magical time of year, when the leaves change from green to gold and in the night sky the stars shine even brighter.

  1. Hi Diane, how right you are about things being topsy-turvey and out of kilter. It's most unsettling but books help to keep me calm and to carry on. I can forget the world for a few hours or minutes sitting in my favourite chair with a good book. Barter Books is really worth visiting it's a longish trip from Somerset so we have only been once but very much hope to go again some day.

  2. That's right! Focus on the simple things in life and take a "media fast!" Life continues on.

    1. I've been on somewhat of a media fast for the past several months. The constant bombardment and assualt on our country from within the government is a real tragedy. I only hope that things are finally starting to turn around. We all have been under a great deal of stress for the last few years! Both my husband and myself having some health issues only makes things worse, but as you said life goes on!

  3. The little things in life like reading, gardening, and cleaning are what keep me grounded. We are finally expecting a cold front in the early morning and then another one on Friday or Saturday. It's about time the temperatures started to drop a bit. I saw your comments on my blog and grabbed it up and added you to my blog roll.

I just try and stick to the more simpler things in life … somehow it just makes more sense.

    All the best Jan

  5. Focusing on the simple things certainly helps to keep us focus and calm! I've also been keeping away from the news for quite some time. I needed a 'sanity' break :) Hope all is well with you!
