Veterans Day 2016

This old flag belonged to my Grandfather, it's old, stained and a bit tattered, but still in reasonably good condition.  My Grandfather, his father and my dad are all Veterans and served in the Army.  They have all passed on, but I always think of my Grandfather in his uniform. He wore it once a year, on Memorial Day. I don't have any pictures of him wearing it, which is very sad, but I still remember him all those years ago.

Thank you to all the Veterans here and in the hereafter
for your service for this great and wondrous country.

You will never be forgotten.

~~~Diane~~~
  1. Both my father and my mother were in the Navy. Sadly, I never knew either of my grandfathers and our family never talks about any of their history. It makes me think there must be an axe murderer in there somewhere...or something. Let's hope this country can remain great and wondrous during the tumult of the next four years.
    1. Hi Susan, very interesting that both you parents were in service. I'm guessing they met while in service. All of our families have a bit of mystery don't they! I agree with your last sentence, it's hard to say what each of us will feel the need to do. Last time we had this situation, we sent as many donations as possible to Environmental Defense and Wildlife protection groups. It's the little bit that we were able to do to counter all the bad that was being done.
  2. Diane, I remember my Father and the uniform he wore, too, and both my uncles, who lived in Nova Scotia, were in the Navy. This is such a beautiful tribute. Thank you. Hugs to you.
    1. Martha, you always have the perfect thing to say... I love that, yes they "paved the way for our peace and freedom." And of course we can not let that slip away in either of our countries, even though at this moment things seem slightly strained here. Thank you all for your kind and thoughtful comments.
  4. Such a lovely tribute Diane and how nice to have the flag, it must be so precious to you.
    I have great respect for Veterans, and I wonder how they would feel about all that is going on in the world right now.
  5. Yes very precious indeed. Some day I will share a story about my family that may surprise a few, I didn't realize how truly open minded and liberal my 'Republican' family was. Back in the 50's it was just called kindness and concern for your fellow human being.
