November Is

November is our cloudiest month here in Minnesota, the weather man told us that the other day. And as if on cue the sun has departed and a veil of clouds has been hanging over us all week.

So what is one to do? Well, one starts to go through their checklist of things that should be done before the winter sets in.

Bring in plants, clean up yard and garden, take cats to vet, take self for dental appointment, get flu shot, etc. All of these things are now done before the Polar Vortex descends upon us once again. Oh yes it will be here sometime this weekend.

I decided to get my flu shot today so that I can curl up with my blanket and cats for a day until I feel better again. For some reason the shot always makes me feel a bit off for a day or two.  What better time to lay low while the Polar Vortex whirls in. I don't know about you, but I am really not ready for cold weather again so soon. Actually we have been pretty lucky, our October was very nice.

My office has been getting another going over since I am busy here working in my Etsy shop, listing more items. My goal was at least one item a day! Haha! Well we try!  I came across a book entitled "Music Through the Year", it is a teacher's edition published in 1959. The music itself is nothing outstanding, but I love the illustrations and find them quite charming.  I hope you enjoy some of the excerpts from the book below.

When the Robin's gone to Sleep
When the Moon is Bright
Then a Lovely Bird I Hear
Singing in the Night

Is the Nightingale a Bird
Far away from Sight
Or a Lovely Angel-Dream
Singing in the night?

Have a wonderful weekend and I'll be visiting you all soon!

  1. Yes, we'll be going into the deep freeze this weekend too. Snow is on its way. Brrrrrrrr.

  2. I'm not ready for the cold either. The previous winter was so long that it took up part of spring, so the warmer seasons seemed much too short. And unlike you, our October was not very nice. I'm already counting the days till spring!

  3. Love this book! I actually don't mind the cold, but not sure I'm ready for snow! I do love to bake in this weather though! :)

  4. November is a very dark month here in Montreal as well! However, your blog makes ANY day bright and beautiful with your lovely music and posts. I absolutely enjoyed this post, Diane, but this isn't surprising, because I always enjoy your posts. Thank you so much for sharing and for making peoples' days bright, including mine! :)

  5. It's 73 today, but tonight and tomorrow night it'll be 43! A welcome change for sure. (Goodbye 90's and 100's!) It's been pretty nice the last few days. Slightly chilly during certain hours.

I've been meaning to tell you that I love your header. It makes me want to jump inside it like Mary Poppins and Co. did with Bert's paintings. :p

  6. Hi Diane, I identify with so many of the things you write about; flu jabs, cleaning up the garden, listing one thing a day (haha!), and grey, cold days. I’ve been doing/experiencing all of those things recently. The garden is almost all cut down ready for the winter, but it’s been raining the last few days, so I’ve had to stop for a while. I hope I can get out and finish it before it gets really cold.
I’ve never heard a nightingale sing, although when I was a little girl, I did used to sing the song about a nightingale singing in Berkley Square.
    Have a lovely weekend

  7. It's been many years since I've seen that month poem. I don't miss the grey winters in the northeast!
