Hello June

Spring lasted about five minutes and now here we are in summer!
It seems like we just got rid of the snow and the calendar indicates that our warm weather up here in the northern states will last just a mere four months more!  We went out for dinner the other night at a local eatery on Lake Minnetonka, and sat in the sun where we were roasted for the entire meal.  How can it already get this hot!?

I had to remind our dinner party that we should enjoy it, because we had just endured one of the coldest winters in the past 30 years!!

But still, really 87 degrees already, that is kind of unheard of for this time of year.  I chugged down over two glasses of iced-tea just to keep from melting!  Our server was terrific and kept apologizing for the heat, (all the seating in the shade was taken), but dang-it, we were going to sit outside even if we got heat-stroke!

As I said our server was great and he made sure we had plenty of ice water and even replaced my first ice tea because all the ice melted in about 4 minutes!  We had a nice meal, even though we ate pretty quickly and did not linger, it was really hot! We drove around the lake and stopped in a couple of spots to take in the lovely views and the plentiful sailboats on the lake that were in some sort of regatta. I would have loved to get a photo, but we never got into the right spot to capture one. It was a lovely sight though and proof that the lazy days of summer are soon upon us.

I happily said goodbye to my house-guests and find that as an introvert having other people around for over a week starts to wear me down. It's nice to see visitors, but I also love my solitude!

I have to rest up though, because I will have more visitor's coming at the end of the month! So I need to enjoy the flowers, bees, wildlife and birds while I have some quiet time on my own. I need to refresh and renew my spirit and just soak up as much of this early summer as I can to last me through the cold months of winter.

I found a lovely little quote that I'd like to share with you today, it makes me wonder if maybe the flowers do sing and we just can't hear them!

"What a pity flowers can utter no sound! A singing rose, a whispering violet, a murmuring honeysuckle, --oh, what a rare and exquisite miracle would these be!"
Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887)

Oh, and one more thing ---

Dear June,
Please be Wonderful!

 June Calling Card...
 Happy June!

  1. Gosh i know what you mean about how it's gone from winter to summer. We had no spring here in KY either. It's been super hot the last couple of weeks. Has me already looking forward to autumn. And I LOVE that Henry Ward Beecher quote!

  2. Where I live it hasn't quite reached summer temperatures yet. Its still a little too cold for the pool, but I'm definitely looking forward to it getting much warmer in the coming weeks.

  3. I agree, too hot too soon! But it looks like we are going to get back to normal this week, 70s!
I'm an introvert too, so I can relate. As much as I love being with friends and family, at some point I just need to be alone! :)

  4. Diane, I am like you in that I enjoy being around friends and family, but I love my alone time too. The restaurant you ate at sounds so nice. I can't believe it's already 87 degrees there, considering you've had some cold cold days of winter and spring. We live in the northern part of California, so we get all the seasons here, and it hasn't got too hot yet, maybe because it was a cold winter. I love your positive attitude in appreciating the weather no matter what.

Have a beautiful week, and that little bee is sweet. Yes, wouldn't it be nice if flowers could talk? I think they do in their own way.

    love,

  5. Dear Diane - I so understand what you mean - we too went from winter with five minutes of spring into summer. I am happy though - no winter coats - flowers blooming and sunshine...all these work to warm my soul - hope you enjoy your solitude. Take care friend.

  7. Hello Diane, I know exactly what you mean about solitude, I love visitors, but I also like my own company.

The weather is crazy at the moment. We've had more floods. Nothing like earlier in the year but the problem is the water just has nowhere to go so as soon as it rains it floods.

I love the Henry Ward Beecher quote. It made me think of the one about a tree...
“If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”

    Happy June, Barbara.

  9. I hear ya about the heat. (And add sticky humidity to the mix).

I also know what you mean about introverts having to recharge. I remember how exhausted I was after my brother's new fiance (now wife) spent a couple nights with us one Christmas. I pretty much tossed myself into bed the second they drove away to go home. It's really hard having to be "on" practically 24/7.

  10. "Spring lasted about five minutes and now here we are in summer!" Hahahaha... Yes, indeed! That's how it's been here, too.

Oh, I so understand about being depleted of energy with guests. It takes a whole week for your batteries to run out? You are good! A weekend is usually more than enough for me...LOL... Unless, it's my daughter visiting. She can stay as long as she likes!

    1. Just wanted to say that we are returning to more "springlike" temperatures for the rest of the week. Can't wait to get out to a few parks in the area and see some of the late spring blooms before they are gone. There's an old Danish proverb that says "After three days both fish and guests begin to smell"!

  12. Such beautiful piano music ~ and the card with the Violets ... simply lovely.
I am the same Diane I do like seeing people from time to time ( for me that would be occasionally) but I truly need nature and solitude to be at my very best ~ no social butterfly here ( except perhaps on the blogoshpere).

  13. Happy June my friend ;o) We had the hot weather, now we are pretty much back to normal. We've been getting bad rain storms and high humidity. But, tonight, it has cooled down again. Up and down the weather goes! LOL!
I'm like you when it comes to visitors ;o)
Great post ;o) Big Hugs ;o)

  14. I'm with ya on this crazy MN weather! It's always been nuts, but it seems to have taken on a whole new meaning. It's kind of scary...and hot, and muggy, and freezing! lol
Here's hoping that the next few months are filled with beautiful days! We deserve it!

  15. Hi Diane,

Yes, I know, you've been eagerly waiting for a comment from me :) I understand and visitors can start to tire one out. I know I'm happy with my own company. Then again, I'm used to it these days.

June will be joyous. You will see. Of course, here in England, the upcoming summer is the warmer part of winter.

Be well and smile, my friend.

    Gary :)

  16. I love that quote by Henry Ward Beecher. I just read about him recently, his whole family was amazing. His sister was Harriet Beecher Stowe, the woman who wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin.

It's even hotter in Georgia! :-) Bring on that iced tea!

  17. You can tolerate people in your house for a week? You are a saint. I think my family will be less than amused to know that their first winter in MN was one of the coldest in decades.

  18. Happy June indeed. Beautiful! quote!
