My Avatar Kitty aka CraveCute |
I fell in love with this cute little kitty and am very happy to have found her. OK my husband found her, but whatever! Then one day while browsing an Etsy Epsteam (Etsy Pickers and Sellers Team) treasury, I spied the kitten planter below!!
Kitten with ball |
It was love at first sight! I knew I just had to have her!! I went to the shop of The Zoe Bird and immediately snatched up this little cutie!
Notice the resemblance here?
Mamma kitty has finally found her long-lost kitten!
Are you my Mamma? |
Let me tell you a little bit about where they came from....
They were created at American Bisque Pottery which started business in West Virginia in 1919 and ended production in 1982. Most American Bisque was simply marked with an impressed USA mark, or a mold number and USA mark. Many pieces were unmarked or had paper tags that almost always came off.
Most pieces have unglazed wedged feet on the bottoms. American Bisque is a very heavy pottery. Both of these pieces are underglazed, which simply means the paint was put on under the clear glaze. Some American Bisque items are cold-painted, meaning, the paint is applied after the item was glazed and fired. Cold paint has a tendency to flake or wash off over the years and is just part of the aging process on vintage pottery. The kitty planters are probably from the 1950's.
Even the goldfish is cute! |

So Happy Together! |
I'm so thrilled that I could reunite these two cute vintage kitty planters, they are adorable together!
I hope you enjoyed this look at some cute vintage collectibles today.
What kind of things do you collect?
What a perfect pair! You are lucky to have found the other one! I went to her shop and she has a nice cookie kitty jar too! Thanks for the history lesson about the pottery company. Very interesting! I love my stones and crystals! I have a large collection and I collect cats too ;o) Other wise, if I like something, I buy it ;o) LOL!
ReplyDeleteBoth of these kitties are so cute and you are right, together they look adorable.
ReplyDeleteI remember years ago my grandmother had the cutest cat cookie jar that looked a little like these two. Thanks for the info on the pottery company.
Adorable -- they are certainly related! It's interesting, the things that fascinate people enough to make them actively collect them -- I myself collect antique bears -- Steiff and Chad Valley and so forth, from the turn of the century. The kids are much broader in taste -- stamps, shells, bar code stickers.....
ReplyDeleteThey are adorable! Now, I have that song from the Turtles playing in my head ♪♫ So Happy Together... ♫♪
ReplyDeleteThese two are adorable and perfect together, Diane. Glad you found the other piece. Maybe there is a third? xo
ReplyDeleteI don't really collect much
ReplyDeletethat is so neat that you have a duo now. I am glad that she went to somebody who will cherish her! There is something so sweet and cheery about the retro colors used on these vintage kitties.
ReplyDeleteGreat find by your hub. My gram use to collect things quite similar to these I was always fascinated with her glass curio cabinet where she kept them. When I got to be around 10 yrs old, she honored me with trusing me to dust them in the cabinet and I was thrilled as I got to look at them up close. :) What do I collect ... hmm lately ... baby chicks it seems LOL good thing I have a farm!
ReplyDeleteGenerally speaking, I'm the world's worst collector. I start collecting something and then peter out when it starts taking up too much room, or I lose interest, or there's just too MUCH out there to collect. At the moment, I seem to be collecting Goddess statues and maneki neko beckoning cats.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful story! A coincidence? I think not.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely lovely day.
Oh my, they are so cute and certainly belong together! "Cute" has gotten me in a lot of trouble, how about you? Sweet post!
ReplyDeleteFrom the looks of my house, I think I collect dust bunnies!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your photo of the bunny with flower in your header photo. Did you take that? It's outstanding! xx
All the images in the header are from Microsoft images, I simply used the PhotoScape editing program to create my own header. That bunny is darling though isn't it!
DeleteWhat lovely treasures! I'm so glad to see Mamma cat now has a new friend. These two pieces look adorable together. Will you put a little plant in the holder?
ReplyDeleteI would only put a faux one in, or only one within another removable container. I've had to clean to many mineral deposits off of planters to risk that again.
DeleteLovely treasures indeed - and they look so happy together. Thank you for showing them to us.
ReplyDeleteOh, most certainly they belong together -- how sweet they are! Fishie better watch out now!!
ReplyDeleteDear Diane - I would have been just like you and not been able to resist. These are adorable. You got me thinking and I must check - I have an old Kitty cup from my dear Grandma...will see if it also American Bisque...it too might be from the same vintage...take care and have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteLove our vintage kitties! I have a huge collection of vintage kitties that I've gotten over the last 40 years. My grandmother gave me my first kitty in my collection when I was a little kid. It was made in Japan in the 40s and I still have it and cherish it in her memory (she had developed Alzheimer's when I was about 7 years old and she passed away about 7 years later.
ReplyDeleteI love it! And the vintage one does look familiar. I collect toys that I had when I was a kid...Strawberry Shortcake dolls and their pets, and action figures :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute story and they are lovely together!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all of your wonderful comments! I love to hear what other people collect! I'm also glad I'm not the only one that collects dust bunnies!Haha! A collection can be as few as three and as many as three. The only large collection I have are of Shawnee Pottery pieces which I have maybe twenty or so pieces.
