Autumn Fires...

Autumn Fires
From Child's Garden of Verses
by Robert Louis Stevenson

In the other gardens
     And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
     See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over
     And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
     The grey smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!
     Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
     Fires in the fall!

I love that poem, it is so simple yet full of joy and optimism!

Before we head out of summer into fall, I have a few more pictures of our local Arboretum to share.

Goodbye summer, we'll see you next year!

Hope you are enjoying your last week of summer too!

  1. The weather here has been glorious! Cool at night but only a sheet required for good sleep. Love it! These photos are gorgeous. xo

  2. That was one of my favorite books as a child. I still have a copy that I read to my stepdaughter when she was a little girl.

Some many gorgeous flowers. It's starting to get a little cooler at night here and some of the leaves, even though they have turned, have that look about them. I'm ready for fall!

  5. All those flowers are gorgeous. We haven't really had a very 'summery' summer, I had to go to the Med to find my sunshine this year!

  6. Dear Diane - I know that I have heard that poem but so nice to revisit the days of our childhood - such lovely words and speaking of lovely...gorgeous pictures - it is hard to say goodbye to the flowers of summer but autumn will be divine too. Thanks as always for sharing. God Bless You.

  7. Oh, your pictures make me want to hold on to summer forever, but the poem makes me yearn for Fall. What a nice feeling to think about both with so much appreciation! Thank you for that!

    Happy seeing beautiful!

  8. Such beautiful pictures .... actually we are getting into the season that I like best here in central Florida ... but it's still way too hot here. I love the picture just before the lovely poem ... it's vintage isn't it. Perhaps from the 20's or 30's.

    Happiness always.

    1. Hello All... Thank you for your lovely comments! I am glad you enjoyed the poem and the images... and yes ArtSings the picture is from a vintage clip art dvd I have had for almost twenty years. Unfortunately there was not always information about the artwork.

I am similarly conflicted like most of you, yearning for summer to continue but also excited about the crisp air and turning leaves that come with Autumn.
