Autumn
Fires
From
Child's Garden of Verses
by
Robert Louis Stevenson
In the
other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the
autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!
Pleasant
summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red
fire blazes,
The grey smoke towers.
Sing a
song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers
in the summer,
Fires in the fall!
I love that poem, it is so simple yet full of joy and optimism!
Before we head out of summer into fall, I have a few more pictures of our local Arboretum to share.
Goodbye summer, we'll see you next year!
Hope you are enjoying your last week of summer too!
~~Diane~~
The weather here has been glorious! Cool at night but only a sheet required for good sleep. Love it! These photos are gorgeous. xo
ReplyDeleteThat was one of my favorite books as a child. I still have a copy that I read to my stepdaughter when she was a little girl.
ReplyDeleteSome many gorgeous flowers. It's starting to get a little cooler at night here and some of the leaves, even though they have turned, have that look about them. I'm ready for fall!
this poem is so beautiful and joyful! and the arboretum is amazing! I love fall. There is something magical about autumn... a sense of renewal, of introspection.
ReplyDeleteThat is truly a lovely poem. And your photos are gorgeous! I love them. It's sad to see summer go, but the autumn season can be quite lovely when the weather is nice.
ReplyDeleteAll those flowers are gorgeous. We haven't really had a very 'summery' summer, I had to go to the Med to find my sunshine this year!
ReplyDeleteDear Diane - I know that I have heard that poem but so nice to revisit the days of our childhood - such lovely words and speaking of lovely...gorgeous pictures - it is hard to say goodbye to the flowers of summer but autumn will be divine too. Thanks as always for sharing. God Bless You.
ReplyDeleteOh, your pictures make me want to hold on to summer forever, but the poem makes me yearn for Fall. What a nice feeling to think about both with so much appreciation! Thank you for that!
ReplyDeleteHappy seeing beautiful!
Such beautiful pictures .... actually we are getting into the season that I like best here in central Florida ... but it's still way too hot here. I love the picture just before the lovely poem ... it's vintage isn't it. Perhaps from the 20's or 30's.
ReplyDeleteHappiness always.
Hello All... Thank you for your lovely comments! I am glad you enjoyed the poem and the images... and yes ArtSings the picture is from a vintage clip art dvd I have had for almost twenty years. Unfortunately there was not always information about the artwork.
DeleteI am similarly conflicted like most of you, yearning for summer to continue but also excited about the crisp air and turning leaves that come with Autumn.
I also love the illustration at the beginning of the post. I wish we knew who the artist was - I'd love to see some more of their work.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos - it must be wonderful to walk around the Arboretum - there is a different view around every corner!
I love the flowers! The photos are amazing, all are good souvenirs for this year's summer :)
ReplyDeletewow! Those pictures were gorgeous! And that poem was lovely...stirred up a lot of nostalgia for me!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful pictures! That little sculpture among the leaves is so sweet and tender.
ReplyDeleteThe sculpture of the little boy with the bird is one of my favorites too!
