And Now What?

The day after the election 2016 ...

The party's over the winner announced.  But is our path set? Are we following the leader or just going our own separate ways? And where exactly are we going?

Where do we go from here?
We are a nation divided, not a clear cut line across the states, but a checkerboard of people with different basic beliefs. When you're out and about, almost every other person you cross paths with will have the polar opposite view of the world from the way you see it.

Friends, co-workers and even families have been broken apart, perhaps forever. We have a few things in common and I guess that's what will get us through, as long as we have civility.

How do we go on? Or are we going back, back say, 50, 60, 100 years?

I wonder, was it all about one person winning?

And are all the rest of us just losers?

Only time will tell.

What does make  me feel better is an article by our very own dear Garrison Keillor who tells me that we progressive liberals are in the clear... Read his full article at the Washington Post here.

"The government is in Republican hands. Let them deal with him. Democrats can spend four years raising heirloom tomatoes, meditating, reading Jane Austen, traveling around the country, tasting artisan beers, and let the Republicans build the wall and carry on the trade war with China and deport the undocumented and deal with opioids, and we Democrats can go for a long , brisk walk and smell the roses." Garrison Keillor, Washington Post.

  1. Such lovely music, dear friend. Only time will tell indeed, Diane. Many of us here in Canada are reeling and still stunned at the results...and wondering how this win will affect our economy. God is still God, and no matter who "wins", I just pray that peace and love will be the theme to keep us united.

  2. Dear Diane, Terry and I were stunned when we woke up this morning, we just could not believe it. It feels rather like the world has gone mad. First Brexit and now this, what next we wonder?
Keep smelling the roses Diane, just as we will. We might all look back in time and wonder what all the fuss was about.

  3. I love Garrison Keillor and his message. Was lucky enough to see him in person when he brought his radio show here. Thanks for the link.

After realizing the the inevitable last night, I shed a few tears and went to bed. Like Obama said, the sun still rose this morning.

We are a great country already and we will perservere.
    Thanks Diane.

    1. Thank you Pam. I know I may lose a couple of followers over this type of post, but there may be more to come. We've seen Garrison a few times and have listened for 30 years! Miss him now he's left his Prairie Home Companion show... I hope our country will get through this, the protests continue to spread...

  4. I don't know what to say? I know we are still talking about it in Canada! I wish you guys all the best! I have to say, what we are talking about in Canada, is about how Trump wants to cancel trade deals with us. I just pray everything will work our right for everyone!!! Big hugs!!!

    1. Yes all true. He wants to get rid of trade agreements that effect Mexico, Canada and many other countries. The issue now is that they have been in place for over 20 years and many USA companies who work with those other countries employ workers here and if the agreements are wiped away so are the JOBS!
Relationships broken apart, very strained within my own family. My brothers and I do not see the world in the same way. One brother votes Republican over and over and has a gay son... ???
I have had to unfollow people on social media because of their hateful comments and posts.

    2. We have been watching the protest marches on the television. I think this entire situation is so sad! I hate what is happening within your own family!! My friend, the one thing you have to remember, the way your brothers are, having nothing to do with you, it's all them! I know they are blood, but you can't do anything, but pray for their happiness and let go! I think that's what you all have to do!
Never stop being who you are! You have to make positive out of this! I don't know how, but you have to! I just reread your post about your Grandmother, (for some reason), it was calling to me. You wrote, "But the most important thing I learned from her, is to be true to yourself and only do what feels right in your heart."
Always be true to you!!! And, keep living the way you are! Never let any person change that!!
We all have power!! Turn the fear off! I know easier said than done, but do it! Don't let fear consume you! That's what your government wants!!! They feed on fear!
Sending much love and positive energy your way!

    3. Thank you for re-reading the post about my Grandmother, I wanted to put something positive up about strong women. I think there were so many out there that didn't want a strong woman like Hillary in a powerful office because of jealousy and sexism. We know it's still out their, right alongside all the other haters.

  6. That is an excellent article! I loved it. Now just kick back and relax. De-stress. Grab a book off your shelf and get cozy on your couch. Drink herbal tea while you read. Pet your cats. Take a bubble bath. What will be will be...

    1. The article is somewhat comforting to me, but I was listening to the radio yesterday and hearing how terrified lower income people are feeling is heartbreaking. Garrison is speaking as a wealthy man and will have no problem providing for his family. This is not the reality for many others. I have to say that when I listened to Hillary give her speech yesterday, I cried. I wanted to hear them say Madame President so bad. If all of the progress we've made over the years is rolled back, I may not live to see a female progressive president.

    1. You're right Debbie, maybe Hillary has an even higher calling than being president...
“Let us have faith in each other. Let us not grow weary. Let us not lose heart. For there are more seasons to come and...more work to do.” Galatians 6:9 --- quote from Hillary's concession speech

  8. Interesting slant on the election - I think we all need a little encouragement like this to get us through the tough times. Keep calm and carry on.
