I love the vintage image of the fairy below, whipping up some beautiful holly out of her magic Christmas kettle. I do not know who the illustrator is but I find it quite adorable! The equally lovely poem below is by author Lewis Carroll.
Christmas Greetings from a Fairy to a Child
Lady, dear, if Fairies may
For a moment lay aside
Cunning tricks and elfish play,
'Tis at happy Christmas-tide.
We have heard the children say -
Gentle children, whom we love -
Long ago on Christmas Day,
Came a message from above,
Still, as Christmas-tide comes round,
They remember it again -
Echo still the joyful sound
"Peace on earth, good-will to men!"
Yet the hearts must childlike be
Where such heavenly guests abide;
Unto children, in their glee,
All the year is Christmas-tide!
Thus, forgetting tricks and play
For a moment, Lady dear,
We would wish you, if we may,
Merry Christmas, Glad New Year!
For a moment lay aside
Cunning tricks and elfish play,
'Tis at happy Christmas-tide.
We have heard the children say -
Gentle children, whom we love -
Long ago on Christmas Day,
Came a message from above,
Still, as Christmas-tide comes round,
They remember it again -
Echo still the joyful sound
"Peace on earth, good-will to men!"
Yet the hearts must childlike be
Where such heavenly guests abide;
Unto children, in their glee,
All the year is Christmas-tide!
Thus, forgetting tricks and play
For a moment, Lady dear,
We would wish you, if we may,
Merry Christmas, Glad New Year!

Happy Holidays ~~ Diane
Diane, your header is an absolute delight, I love it! Wonderful post and music, as always, thank you so much for all you share.
ReplyDeleteI could have used a Christmas Fairy today, too. We put up the Christmas tree, and as always it took the entire day. My poor dog missed out on playtime outside because of it. I hope she forgives me. :p
ReplyDeleteOk, this is really weird. I just wrote a comment to you and I think the Christmas Fairies took it away! They must be playing a trick on me! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love this post! It think it's so beautiful!
Give Guy a hug from me ;o)
Diane, your address is the same, right?

ReplyDeleteDear Diane - a delightful poem as well as a beautiful vintage fairy. You always find the most adorable things to share. Hope you get Guy under control. I know how that goes with cats in the house...they can really create havoc with decorating! Have a beautiful start to December. Hugs!
