It came from my lovely Hansa rose. At the very top of the bush on some new growth, a cluster of roses formed. I noticed it last week and thought how pretty but lonely they looked up there. After hearing the forecast for the weekend, I decided to cut the little cluster off of the mother plant.
I pampered them and babied them for a few days and photographed them from every angle so I would remember this October gift. I wish I could have captured their scent too.
"With its leaves so rich and heavy with elation
and its crimson face made brighter with visions of divinity
the shadow of a certain rose looks just like an angel eating light."
Aberjhani, Visions of a Skylark Dressed in Black
The seasons are in a hurry to catch up and we have had below average temperatures all week. I have hurriedly unpacked my sweaters and fleece in preparation for what is to come! Tiny snow flakes have been flying around and landing on the backs of my black cats! Dot especially dislikes the cold weather.
My first pumpkin pies have come out of the oven this week and I have seen the Junco birds in the yard! These are all sure signs that Autumn is half-way over and Winter may be arriving early!
Stay warm my friends! ~~ Diane
I don 't believe I've ever seen a Hansa Rose before. Absolutely beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteI love my Hansa rose, it is a hardy northern shrub rose.
DeleteThat rose is an amazing colour!!!! I love the vase too. Can't believe you have some snow flakes, I get mixed up as to where people are in the world? We are still just hanging onto some warmth here in Yorkshire, which is nice, but a bit strange at this time of year :)
ReplyDeleteYes it is a shocking pink rose! The vase was my Mom's and yes there were some areas in our state that had about an inch of snow this week.
DeleteSuch wondrous photos of the resplendent colours that soon will sleep. And with advent of the impending winter, the cycle of a spring rebirth.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully articulated, my friend. And my English country garden has only just seen the symbols of autumn.
Gary
Welcome Gary, thank you for your lovely comments!
DeleteDiane,
ReplyDeleteOh my, these roses are simply beautiful, and the color! I have a few roses in my front yard still blooming, and I smile as I pass them every day. I love that green plate next to the roses. It goes perfect with your flowers.
What a beautiful post this is today. I hope you are enjoying the Autumn days.
Love,
~Sheri
Your climate is just a bit milder than ours here. Enjoy those roses in your front yard for as long as you can!
DeleteI love that plate next to the roses...perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to tell from the photo, but it is a large shallow bowl. Very old... from Germany. I picked it up at an estate sale last year.
DeleteOh the roses are magnificent. And you can savor the photos and imagine the scent all winter. The color is breathtaking! :) Yes, winter is on its way. I'm looking forward to it it a way i never have. Odd. Stay warm.. cuddle with your kitties!
ReplyDeleteI love the Halloween art on top! What lovely flowers. My plants are confused, as we've had record warm (70s) here this week.
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing with my new Yabba Dabba Doo roses. When they fade, the petals will go into a little potpouri bowl in my bathroom.
ReplyDeleteBalisha
I will be doing the same thing ... my rose petals are drying on the counter.
DeleteYour pictures are simply beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you Helen and welcome to my blog!
DeleteAh Diane - I love your last gift from the garden. The rose is stunning. Sometimes God saves the best for last. It is cold here too but no snow - although further north they had a wet heavy one and power outages. The long range forecast shows a warming trend again. Hope you get some Indian Summer! Take care and have a great week-end.
ReplyDeleteI agree Debbie! Thanks so much for stopping by!
DeleteBeautiful photos, and what a juxtaposition, roses, snow & pumpkins! Ever want to just say "pick one, please"?
ReplyDeleteHey Diane ;o) I love how you captured these flowers at different stages! They are beautiful! Love the color!! It's cool here too!!!
ReplyDeleteHow very, very beautiful -- wild and extravagant and soft and delicate all at the same time. You can almost see God's hand reaching down and placing them in your garden :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful roses and I absolutely love the last photograph; the roses look perfect against that pretty plate. Your garden was very kind to give you such a lovely gift.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! What a lovely gift from your garden before the winter lays a white blanket over it. The photographs are beautiful. I especially like the last one. We had our first frost last week, so there's no denying that winter is on its way!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful. Love the vibrant color!
